Description:
Blepharospasm is a term used to describe uncontrollable blinking eyelids. This is caused by the contraction of the muscles of the eyes spontaneously.
In normal circumstances, within one minute of human eyelid blink ten times. However, in patients with blepharospasm eyes blink more than ten times in a minute.
The cause of this blinking disorders is unclear, but this disorder is related to disturbances in the basal ganglia. Basal ganglia are part of the brain that regulate and spontaneous movement.
Symptoms:
- Blinks for more than ten times with no underlying cause
- Glare
- The surface of dry eye balls
Pengonbatan:
Treatment is usually with the provision of medicines, such as Botox (botulinum toxin) injections, and surgery.
